As the boys were taking walks and stealing bases on the baseball diamond against Southern Wells, it was quite a different story on the softball diamond Thursday night for the home Heritage Patriots.
The team belted out ten extra base hits (they only had two singles), including four home runs by four different players as they crushed Southern Wells, 15-3. Audra Bickel ended the contest via the run rule with a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.
Ironically, Southern Wells actually took the lead in the top of the first with a home run of their own when Gracie Reeves hit one out to left field.
Libby Cain quickly reversed that score, knocking in Danica Fuller with a home run of her own to center in the top of the first.
Two batters later, Grace Guenthner hit a 1-0 pitch out herself.
Danica homered in the second when she came back up to bat, knocking in two more and giving the home team a 6-1 lead.
Abriyah James had a triple and a single and scored twice.
Lucy Buuck threw all five innings and allowed just three hits. Only one of the runs she allowed was earned. She struck out four.
The Patriots play at Northrop Friday night and will return home Monday for a game against the Eastside Blazers.
