Wednesday night was the annual celebration of the senior class at Bellmont High School where members of the upcoming graduating class were awarded scholarships from the Adams County Community Foundation and recognized for other scholarships outside the ACCF.
The eight-page scholarship application (with two required letters of recommendation and six-semester transcripts) was due mid-January, and seniors learned of their awards Wednesday night.
With $200,000+ in Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) and community awards presented, Coni Mayer, ACCF executive director, reported that 144 awards were presented from 68 ACCF named funds, going out to 53 Bellmont seniors.
The ACCF manages over 150 scholarship funds.
Deb Cook, ACCF Scholarship Administrator, reports that when working with the scholarships just for Bellmont students, 40+ committees are assigned the task to review and report to her their recommendations. The ACCF Board of Directors has final approval for these recommendations.
After corralling the individual committees, Deb Cook organizes the hundreds of individual certificate packets. Attached to each personalized certificate, the student finds information that describes how to activate the award, where to send the thank you note, and an article that describes the reason the scholarship fund was established.
At the program, the announcements were listed so students called forward had time to collect their certificate, thank the donor, get a PR picture taken, and return to their seat before being called forward again.
The ACCF extends a sincere thank you to the North Adams staff, Sarah Omlor, Sean Faurote, Michelle Blackburn and Tory Fuelling, for their infinite cooperation with the ACCF.

The staff at the ACCF works diligently to have an organized, professional program for each of the high schools in Adams County.
The South Adams high school awards event will be April 24th at 6:30 p.m. and the Adams Central event will be May 6th at 7:00 p.m.
The first-time award presented this year at North Adams was the memorial scholarship recognizing James ‘Jim’ Teeter. Jim’s son, Scott Teeter, was on stage to present this first award.
More details of these awards, scholars and will be forthcoming in the local publications over the next few weeks.
