The beautiful weather did not inspire the bats in Monday’s non-conference contest at Carroll High School, where the Chargers scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth to beat Danica Fuller and Heritage, 1-0.
The decisive tally came from a leadoff double by Jordyn Fuller, a successful sacrifice bunt by the Chargers and an RBI triple by Ella Craker. Those two hits accounted for half the total base knocks allowed by Danica Fuller, who struck out 12 and walked three to take the hard-luck loss.
At the plate, Danica was her usual self, going 2 for 3 at the plate. Abriyah James had the only other hit for the visitors, a single in the fourth.
The Patriots attempted to answer Carroll’s run in the top of the sixth when Fuller singled to left with one out, but a line-drive double play ended the rally quickly.
Taylor Danley pitched a complete game for Carroll, striking out seven and walking none.
The Patriots are back in action Wednesday at Bellmont. That game will be broadcast live on WZBD’s YouTube channel.
