An idea floated at the April 19 meeting of Decatur City Council got some immediate “legs” and seems likely to arise again.
One of the new council members, Jenny Bowers-Shultz, said as the meeting was wrapping up that she thought it would be a good idea for the City of Decatur to have a flag with its own design.
“I’ve been in Chicago and they have them all over the place,” she said. “It’s just an idea I’ve been thinking about.
“It would be good way to market our city.”
Mayor Dan Rickord said that perhaps a contest could be a good way to select a design.
Councilman Matt Dyer added that maybe a city design could go on koozies (which bottles and cans sit in), hats, etc.
It was also noted that perhaps the Mayor’s Youth Council could take on the idea as a project.
No decisions were made, but it was an idea which got a warm reception.
