
Police and emergency response officials were called to the St. Marys River in Decatur near the Bunge plant after a report of a fuel spill. Officials quickly cut off traffic near the bridge there and downstream at 900 N to contain the spill.
Late in the morning, the DPD issued the following statement:
At approximately 7:35 AM, the Decatur Fire Department responded to a reported fuel leak in the St. Marys river. A quick response from the Decatur Fire Department and Bunge Maintenance allowed them to get specialized booms into the river. These booms are designed to contain the product to prevent further spread.
There is no danger to the community from the incident but a possible odor may be noticeable.
This incident is currently under investigation.
