First Presbyterian Church of Bluffton will observe Maundy Thursday with a special worship service on March 28 at 7:00 P.M. The A440 Strings, all members of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic, will perform excerpts from George Frederic Handel’s The Messiah in addition to other seasonal music for the Prelude, Postlude, and hymn accompaniments.
These musicians: violinists Kristin Westover and Pablo Vasquez and cellist Brian Klickman have performed together for many years throughout northeast Indiana in concert halls, schools, and churches. During this special service, musical selections from Parts I and II of The Messiah will be presented along with the Biblical passages upon which the music is based.
The Messiah is probably the best known of Handel’s works and was composed in less than one month in 1741. Handel himself conducted its first performance in Dublin, Ireland, in 1742.
First Presbyterian Church in Bluffton is located at 215 E. Dustman Road. Pastors and members from First United Methodist Church and from Calvary Lutheran Church will also assist in this worship service. The celebration of Holy Communion will be observed too. The public is invited to attend and take part in this memorable Holy Week event.
