Adams County employees will be getting a half day off on April 8 for the total eclipse that will be covering the area that afternoon. However, they won’t get paid for the time off, unless they file for it. WZBD’s Ed Thurman spoke with Commissioners President Stan Stoppenhagen about the reasoning for the afternoon off for county workers, and why they won’t get paid for it…
There will be exceptions to the closure that day, including emergency workers in Adams County who will still have to work…but those workers will be paid as normal. Many schools and businesses are planning to close during the total eclipse on April 8…which will place Adams County and surrounding areas in total darkness for about an hour late that afternoon.
Meanwhile, Adams County could soon receive a $10,000 grant from the state to be used for a rather unusual need…removing old tires to keep mosquitoes from laying their eggs and spreading potential diseases. At Tuesday’s County Commissioners meeting, WZBD’s Ed Thurman spoke with Tara Wolfrum from the County Health Department about the grant, what it will be used for, and how soon the county could receive the money…
Wolfrum says the County Commissioners had to approve the Health Department’s filing for the grant…which they gladly gave! Health Department officials hope to receive the money within a few weeks so they can use it to eradicate the old tires…and hopefully the mosquitoes as well.
