A home at 133 N. Eighth St. in Decatur was demolished Thursday by Advanced Demolition Services of McComb, Ohio.
The home, dilapidated and considered a danger to homes on either side of it, has been targeted by the city’s building and zoning department for some time.
A cleanup of the debris, including a basement, is likely to take longer than the demolition.
Eighth St. was closed between Monroe and Madison streets for the razing, and residents of the two nearby homes were asked to evacuate during the operation.
The demolition had been delayed by the discovery and removal of asbestos in the basement. That $1,300 cost drives the total price for the work to $20,261.
The city will send the bill to the building’s owner, CONNEX of Huntsville, Alabama.
