Six candidates – and maybe seven – seeking three openings are going to make a highly interesting race on the Adams County Republican ticket for the May primary.
Between filings and announcements, as of Sunday, six Republicans are known to be seeking an at-large seat on the Adams County Council.
There are three at-large seats on the council and all three are up for election this year.
Two of them are incumbents, John Summers and Cathy Mitchel.

The others are: Shawn Hamrick, Lance Fletcher, Gina Melcher and A.J. Bertsch.
The six could become seven since the third incumbent, veteran councilman Dennis Bluhm, has not announced if he will be seeking a new term.
Another hot race on the GOP primary ballot was assured on the first filing day, with Steve Kuhn seeking a second term as a county commissioner and being challenged by Doug Bauman.
Bauman had served on the commission for 22 years until being knocked off by Kuhn in 2020.
Now they are at odds once again.
FILING
In a recent filing, Monica Fennig of rural Monroe, became a candidate for coroner on the Republican ballot.
Dean Amstutz is the current coroner and released a statement Monday endorsing Fennig.
“I would like to thank the citizens of Adams county for allowing me to serve as the Coroner since 2021. It is now time for me to step aside from this position and as a result, I will not be seeking a second term. Instead, I am endorsing Monica Fennig and fully support her campaign for Coroner of Adams County. I believe that she will faithfully perform her duties as Coroner with great compassion, thoughtfulness, and integrity. The citizens of Adams county will be fortunate to have Monica Fennig serving as their Coroner.”
