A memorable season of dual meets concluded for the Bellmont Braves on Tuesday night, with the state’s #17 team overall dominating the Carroll Chargers in a 58-18 non-conference victory.
The victory for coach Tim Myers and his team gives the Braves a 27-1 mark on the season. The 27 dual meet wins is a new record for the program in the regular season.
Carroll won the opening bout with a fall at 132, but the Braves answered back with nine in a row, including two impressive tech falls by Sam Wolpert and Duke Myers.
Bellmont also pulled off two decisions in the upper weights, with Cole Mendez finishing a shot in overtime to beat Jayden Barrie 3-1 and Grady Baker showing some patience to defeat the Charger heavyweight, Bradyn Lothamer, by an 8-1 score.
After the Braves dropped 106, they bounced back with two second-period falls from Ethan Curtis and Henry Faurote to end the match.
Bellmont did forfeit the final weight (126) and the team faces a predicament heading into the tournament series with no eligible wrestler able to fill the spot. Both Will Franze and Keven Loshe moved up a weight from their usual spots in this dual meet.
The Braves will send their JV wrestlers to Friday’s JV conference meet before competing and attempting to defend their varsity conference title Saturday.
