Thursday night’s dual between Adams Central and Delta featured two teams who had just wrestled in their respective state championship duals at Team State Saturday and on Senior Night for the BAGUBAs, it was Delta picking up a 49-21 victory.
The Jets were missing several varsity starters, with brothers Max and Myles out of the lineup, along with Zac Wurm missing out on an anticipated match with Delta’s Isaac Moss.
Nevertheless, the Jets held their own and wrestled some of Delta’s most talented wrestlers tough, taking what looked like pins on paper and turning them into decisions and major decisions.
“We lost by 28 to these guys,” said coach Tony Currie after the dual, “but you give us Wurm at heavyweight and I think we win that one and that is a big swing.”
Currie played the role of father and head coach as all the seniors on the team were honored. Currie’s son, Trevor, was one of the 12th graders honored.
