Three Jay County wrestlers qualified for the 2024 State Finals in Kokomo next week by winning their ticket round matches at Friday’s Rochester Semi-State, propelling the Patriots to a sixth-place finish in the team race.
Mallory Winner, a state champ in each of the last two seasons for coach Eric Myers’ team, won what was likely the best championship bout of the day by defeating #2-ranked Rhaigyn Trenary of Eastside by a 9-6 score.
Also advancing for the Patriots were Lina Lingo and Emily Manor.
Lingo took third at 135 and Manor was fourth at 140.
Jay County’s Katie Rowles was defeated in the ticket round by Angelina Clay of Lakeland in the ticket round. Clay went on to reach the finals and finish second.
East Noble won the team event despite the fact that New Haven had four individual champions.
