Facing two dual meets in the span of two days against local and sectional rivals Norwell and Bellmont, the Adams Central Jets scored an impressive 48-21 win over the Knights Wednesday at home in a match broadcast live on WZBD’s YouTube Channel.
Adams Central did not seem to miss a beat despite being without several varsity starters, taking out a Norwell team that has been competitive in the 2A scene for the past few years.
Trevor Currie started off the meet with a pair of takedowns and a controlling 6-1 win over Zach Wilson before handing it over to classmate Wyatt McAfee, who scored a fall in the second period to give the Jets a 9-0 lead.
Gavin Rumple, a sophomore who has been filling in for Zac Wurm and moving up a class to 285 since last week, wrestled well, but was turned in the third period and pinned by Carson Powell.
Myles Kaehr’s fantastic start to the season continued with a quick fall at 106 and then the two teams traded forfeits at 113 and 120, with the Jets choosing to hold Jackson Bingham out after the newcomer wrestled in a JV event earlier in the year and can only compete so many times in a season.
Adams Central then reeled off six wins in a row to build a 48-12 lead. Jaret Smith was up 13 points before getting a fall at 157 against Aden McJury.
Norwell got a fall at 165 with Cody Cox and then Eli Behning won perhaps the best bout of the night in the finale at 175, just edging AC’s Max Kaehr, 10-8.
