With the season shortened by four weeks because of the run to the State Finals in football, the Adams Central Flying Jets do not have the time to sulk over losses like the one that they suffered Tuesday night at New Haven. With just one practice in between weigh-ins this week, the Jets bounced back and defeated the Columbia City Eagles 63-18 in the team’s home opener.
Coach Tony Currie’s team dropped just three bouts and reversed course after scoring the opening takedown in eleven of 14 bouts Tuesday but still dropping the dual against the Bulldogs.
The Jets jumped out to an early 24-0 lead thanks to a forfeit by CC at 165 and quick falls by Max Kaehr, Trevor Currie and Wyatt McAfee.
Columbia City jumped back in with falls at heavyweight, taking advantage of Zac Wurm’s absence, and at 106, but AC won the next five bouts.
Kale Beer scored a fall with one second on the clock in the second period at 113 and Jackson Bingham took care of a funky CC 120 pounder, finishing off a tech fall to put the home team up 35-12.
Brason Schortgen’s major decision at 132 clinched the dual meet for the Jets.
The Jets finished off the night with two falls by Max Byerly and Jaret Smith at 150 and 157, respectively.
