DANE FUELLING

Football fans from around Z Land have long speculated where Adams Central would land next year in football classifications, but now there is no need to wait.
Just 11 students under the cutline when the last classifications were made, there was plenty of reason to believe that the Jets’ program was destined for 2A because of enrollment next summer, but with the IHSAA success factor threshold being reached with back-to-back trips to the State Finals, coach Michael Mosser’s team is set to leave 1A for the first time ever.
The Jets’ switch will be part of a larger shakeup when new enrollment data and the success factor jumps and drops are put into the computers.
Many in the Fort Wayne area may have been asking if the Jets, who have won three consecutive semi-state titles in 1A, could compete with 2A powerhouses like Bishop Luers, but, ironically, that argument will continue to be theoretical because Luers are also on their way up 3A.
One of the most storied programs in Indiana football history, the Knights have won 3A sectionals before and are only 30 students away from being in 3A anyways. Luers won 3A sectional titles in 2005, 2014, 2017 and 2018.

So who might be in a sectional next year for the Jets?
It could be as simple as Adams Central slotting into Luers’ spot in Sectional 35 with teams like Churubusco and Eastside.
We will all just have to wait and see.
Teams moving up next year: Fort Wayne Snider (up to 6A), East Central (up to 5A), Bishop Chatard (up to 4A), Fort Wayne Bishop Luers (up to 3A), Indy Lutheran (up to 2A), Adams Central (up to 2A)
Teams staying up: Indy Cathedral (staying in 6A), Lafayette Central Catholic (staying in 2A)
Teams dropping back down: Evansville memorial (back to 3A)
