It may seem odd to the non-wrestling fan, but most of the Bellmont Braves wrestling team will spend more time on the practice mat in the John Friedt Wrestling Room Thursday than eating turkey and mashed potatoes.
Why?
The Braves have a long tradition of participating in big dual events on the two days following the Thanksgiving holiday and this year is no different. Coach Tim Myers entered his squad into the Redhawk Super Duals in Goshen two years ago and the team has used the event as a springboard for early season success. Myers hopes this year is no different.

The lineup of teams has changed somewhat from last year’s event, but the schedule should yield some decent matchups for the #5 Braves over the two-day event.
Repeated attempts to reach the Goshen Athletic Department were not met with a reply, but a scouring of schedules of northern teams showed the following tentative and unofficial list of returning teams: Bellmont, South Bend Riley, Lakeland, Angola, West Noble, Chesterton, John Glenn, LaPorte, Eastside and Goshen.
Garrett will also be participating with their “B” team.

New to the event are Hammond Morton and Munster. The Braves finished last season 10-0 in the two-day event.
Coach Myers is fairly limited at the moment in terms of flexibility in the lower weights, but he will have room to move guys around in the heavier weights, with guys like senior Devin Gephart possibly seeing some mat time. Gavin Davis is also a possibility to see some matches as he continues to nurse an injury.
Follow WZBD all weekend long for updates on the tournament.
