Members of the Union Township Lions are honored to be chosen as the Grand Marshall of the 2023 Callithumpian Parade. The Union Township Lions club was chartered December 31,1980. The Lions motto “We Serve” has been their guide and goal. Their longest service project has been providing a free hearing screening during the North Adams Kindergarten roundup each spring; 5 years ago, they added a free vision screening to this service project. Over the years they have donated thousands of hours to make improvements to the Union Township Park. Another service project has been installing and maintaining dry hydrants in private ponds throughout the township for fire fighting protection (no home in Union Township is more than 2 miles away from a dry hydrant). The club has donated thousands of dollars to state, national and international project such as Lions Club International Foundation, Cancer Control (research and treatment at IU Medical Center in Indianapolis), Leader Dogs for the Blind (remember Frank Whitacre), and Eye bank /tissue donation. However, most of their time and money is spent on local charities and projects such as: Adams/Wells crisis shelter, Stillwater hospice, Adams County Council on Aging, Kate’s Kart, Sheriff and Decatur K-9 Units, Pack Away Hunger, Unfailing Love Clinic, Adams County Cancer coalition, Boys and Girls Club of Adams County, Decatur, Preble and Monroe Fire departments as well as may other projects.
They have also helped local families with eye glasses, medical expenses, and losses after fires. If you would like to serve your community by joining the Lions club you are invited to come and learn what they do. Their meetings are the 3rd Thursday of the month 7:00 PM at the Union Township Park Building. The Union Township Lions are “people who care.”
