A fantastic season by the Adams Central cross country team came to a respectable end Saturday at the new cross country regional at the Plex in Fort Wayne as the team finished in 13th place out of the 25 participating teams.
Competing against some of the very biggest schools in the northeast quarter of the state in the IHSAA’s single-class system, the Jets finished roughly a full minute behind the average of the qualifying teams.
Concordia Lutheran finished off a sweep of the day’s team trophies by capturing the girls’ regional an hour after winning the boys’. The other four advancing teams were Homestead, Carroll (FW), East Noble and Warsaw Community.
Madison Gerber finished 40th overall in 19:44.7 and running mate Gabi Landis was just behind her in 44th place at 19:50.8. The last runner to qualify for state finished in 19:20.
The favorite to win this year’s state title, Nicki Southerland of Delta, won by 23 seconds with a time of 17:31.9. Concordia took the next two individual spots and put all five scoring girls in the top 25.
Sidney Scheumann was eighth for the Cadets.
