Continuing the station’s long and proud tradition as the leader in coverage of high school wrestling across the country, WZBD, 92.7 FM, announced Tuesday a new programming section committed to the emerging sport of girls wrestling in the Hoosier State.
As part of the station’s commitment to the sport, WZBD will be the first radio station in Indiana to broadcast a girls-only wrestling meet when Jay County hosts two teams on November 2nd. The station will also broadcast girls-only duals between Jay County and Columbia City on November 16th and between the Patriots and New Haven on December 7th. Those featured matches will include several girls who are multiple-time state champions – Mallory Winner and Julianna O’Campo.
Additionally, the station is committed to covering the entire girls tournament series. WZBD will be using a combination of radio broadcasts and webcasts to cover the Jay County Regional on December 30th, the Rochester Semi-State on January 5th and the IHSGW State Finals in Kokomo on January 12th.
“Not only does this coverage benefit the Jay County Patriots,” noted JC head coach Eric Myers, “but it continues to grow the sport of girls wrestling in our community and across our state through the power of radio. We are extremely grateful for the partnership with WZBD this season.”
The new coverage will be provided by Rex Brewer, Dane Fuelling and Nat Wood. Brewer and Fuelling were awarded the Distinguished Media Award by the IHSWCA this summer for their work in radio coverage of high school wrestling.
