“I really feel like it was the best fit for me and now felt like the right time.”
With that mindset, Bellmont senior Duke Myers made his decision Friday, committing his collegiate wrestling career to Michigan State University.
The Spartans are coached by Roger Chandler, a former teammate of Myers’ father, Tim, who is his current head coach at Bellmont.
In 2018, Duke attended a Michigan State match with teammates and coaches. The experience stuck with him, even after visits to Princeton and to his father’s alma mater, Indiana University.
“I think I just really like green,” Myers joked Friday. “But honestly it’s really cool to think about yourself as a Big Ten wrestler. Now that I have this decision out of the way, I think it allows me to focus on my senior year and reaching my goals. I don’t have that pressure of having to think about where I am going.”
Myers plans to wrestle 165 in college and he is the first commit of his graduating class to MSU.
