After picking up their first loss of the season against Bellmont Thursday, the South Adams Starfires bounced back and opened the weekend with an eight-team, bracketed tournament at Parkway in Ohio, eventually claiming third place after a 2-1 day.
The Stars opened the day with a straight-set victory over Elida, 25-17, 25-23.
Macy Pries led the way with nine kills and a team-high 12 digs. Laney Trausch had an excellent match with four aces and ten kills.

In the semifinal, South Adams faced Shawnee, a solid team with a record last season of 18-7. The Ohio hitters overpowered the Starfires, winning 25-15, 25-13. Pries led the team in kills in those two sets with six.

In the consolation bracket the Starfires met Ottoville for third plalce and won in straight sets, 25-20, 25-13. Macy Pries added seven more kills to bring her total on the day to a team-high 22 across the six sets played.
The Starfires are now 9-2 as they prepare for a match at Canterbury Monday night.
