Pitcher Nick Thwaits has announced his retirement after 4 ½ seasons in the San Diego Padres minor league system.

A graduate of Fort Recovery, Ohio, High School, Twaits was a 15th round selection of the San Diego Padres in the 2018 Major League Baseball Draft.
Twaits (photo), 24, pitched in 50 games for the Fort Wayne TinCaps this season and last. He has said he often attended TinCaps while he was in elementary school at Fort Recovery.
He was 3-5 with a 3.19 ERA in 62 innings over 32 appearances with two saves for the High-A TinCaps in 2022, and finished the season at Double-A San Antonio.

He started the current season with Fort Wayne, posting a 3-2 record with three saves and a 4.58 ERA in 35 innings and 18 appearances. Twaits was sent to Low-A Lake Elsinore in June, hurling 3 1/3 innings before deciding last week to retire.
