The Adams Central Jets bring back-to-back semi-state titles and 78 players to the 2023 season where they will make every attempt to finish the season 15-0 and bring back another state title to Monroe, but they will have to do it with a new QB in Jack Hamilton.
The schedule is a familiar one for the Jets, who will fill the Week 3 void in their schedule with fledgling program (and ACAC hopeful) Blackhawk Christian. The Jets played Covenant Christian at Taylor last season in that slot.
Now in his 15th season at the helm of Adams Central football, coach Michael Mosser does not expect to be surprised by too many things at this point in his career. He knows that his job is to prepare Jack Hamilton for success in the first half instead of in mop-up time in the fourth quarter as Hamilton did last year.
“The loss of Ryan Black at that position is huge,” admits Mosser, “but Jack is capable of being just as good, if not better. What he lacks is experience.”
One thing Mosser won’t have to worry about is a standout performance every week from the bruising Keegan Bluhm.
Another new face to the AC offense will be Aaron Hirschy, who filled in during the postseason when the spot came open due to injury. He will help form a formidable backfield with Ryan Tester and Bluhm.
The Jets’ 4-3 offense should be as scary as ever, with plenty of experience back from a year ago.
“Defensively, we could be really good – we have a lot of guys coming back,” says Mosser. “We have much more experience in the secondary than we had last year initially – all but one of them are back from last year. I feel very good about their ability to shut down passing offenses. I also think that our special teams will be much better than last year. We had to rely a lot on some young players filling in those spots. Those players are a year older and will do much better than they did last year.”
