One week ago, the Adams County Commissioners voted to start the process of closing the county’s Golden Meadows Retirement Home. Now, the Commissioners have hired a part-time transitional administrator for the home who will help gradually close the facility in the coming year. Brenda Johns of Bluffton will be paid on an hourly basis to oversee the operations of the home as well as helping the 20 or so residents of Golden Meadows to find new homes.

WZBD’s Ed Thurman spoke with Commissioners President Stan Stoppenhagen about that process…
The Golden Meadows Home has operated as a county owned retirement home in Adams County since the early 1900’s It is one of just 9 such facilities that remain open in the state. At one time, nearly all of Indiana’s 92 counties had such retirement homes.
