The John and Kay Boch Fund was managed by their nephew, Bob Boch. John Boch was the Decatur postmaster and Kay Boch was the owner of the popular ‘Kiddie Shop’ on Second Street in Decatur. Though deceased, they are leaders in the philanthropic giving in Adams County. Establishing a supporting organization in the ACCF in 1996, this fund has provided stability to the Foundation. Growing the fund to over $5,000,000, nephew Robert Boch was very dutiful as he managed the investment and the distribution of the grants and scholarships. Bob Boch turned these responsibilities over to the ACCF in 2020. Bob set up the eligibility requirements to provide support to current college students. The priority is used to support non-traditional students (out of high school 5+ years). If funding allows, support is extended to include 0n-track students (out of high school 1-5 years). The ACCF has been involved with the John and Kay Boch Scholarships since 2000. This scholarship program has grown from 12 scholars in 2000 to over 200 in 2023.
Although in these scholarship recognitions many John and Kay Boch Scholars were announced, it is important to note that there are several special awards that have added to the ACCF for adult students. These scholarships were also announced:
Tiffany Abner Memorial Scholarship, Brittany Raymond Arnold Scholarship, (Madonna) Pauline Borders Scholarship, FCC (Adams) Scholarship, Jordan D. Fuelling Scholarship, Ruth Gottschalk Scholarship, Carol Hackman Business Scholarship, Pam & Earl Johnson Family scholarship, Robert and Faye Keuneke Scholarship, Clarence & Viona Lengerich Scholarship, John Lingenfelter Scholarship, Harold & Dora Ann Long Scholarship, LHSN / Lutheran Hospital School/Nursing, Dee Macke Memorial Scholarship, Robert & Patti McCabe Scholarship, Tina Mere Memorial Scholarship, Kevin C. O’Shaughnessey Scholarship, Ruby Rambo-Blazer Memorial Scholarship, Brittany Raymond-Arnold Scholarship, Dennis & Sylvia Scheumann Scholarship, Betty Jean Jones Seffernick Scholarship, John and Lou Karsh-Sink Scholarship, Carole Thieme Memorial Scholarship, Glen & Phyllis Zimmerman Scholarship.
Also, multiple awards: Don and Helen Forst Memorial Scholarships, John Geimer Memorial Scholarships, Dr. H.S. Lee / Adams Memorial Hospital Scholarship, Peter Minnich Memorial Scholarships.
Also, Wells County Foundation: K. Robert Ehrman / Educational Scholarships, K. Robert Ehrman / Vocational Scholarships, and the Mary V. Reinhard Education Scholarship.
The ACCF is pleased to be in a position to award this many scholarships, reported Louise Ray, ACCF president. She added that the ACCF has not always had this bounty of funds with which to dedicate to adult students. In 1998, the ACCF awarded only 39 scholarships to high school and college level students. In 2023, including the high school seniors, the ACCF awarded over 400 scholarships to Adams County residents planning to attend college or already in college.
The ACCF board of Directors and scholarship Committee members are very proud to note this growth and invites the community to consider adding to this list of donors. We are investing in our future with these students. Contact the ACCF for a no-obligation appointment to learn how you can get involved with the ACCF.
