The Decatur Police Department got wetter than the Decatur Fire Department during the recent Downtown Decatur Day.
The two departments went badge to badge in a dunk tank challenge, with the PD raising $503 to the FD’s $247.
For $1 a throw (or $5 for six), people could choose whether they wanted to attempt to dunk a policeman or a firefighter.
Fire Chief Jeff Sheets and Police Chief Kevin Gerber (with Mayor Dan Rickord in photo) cooked up the friendly challenge, with all funds raised going to the United Way of Adams County’s Clothe-A-Kid program.
“Decatur, you really showed up this past Saturday to help raise funds for the Adams County United Way,” the two chiefs said in a statement. “We can’t say thank you enough for dunking us to help raise funds for this great cause. We saw lots of smiles while you dunked the officer of your choice.”
The chiefs also are offering up another challenge, this one to the public. “We are challenging anyone to add to that total (($750) by calling United Way (260-728-2056),” Sheets said at the recent Decatur City Council meeting. “Tell them you want to add to CashFlash.”
