The Adams County Community Foundation (ACCF) is pleased to announce that Junior Achievement (JA) has been awarded a grant for South Adams ‘Our Community’ classes. The JA Our Community classes introduce students to the intersection of work readiness and early elementary grades social studies learning objectives, including how citizens benefit from and contribute to a community’s success. In the JA Our Community lessons, students identify the variety of careers people have in a community as well as how business and government jobs help a community. Students learn about community and the flow of money in a community’s economy.

Sara Schafer, Development Director for Junior Achievement, noted that Junior Achievement is grateful to the ACCF for providing this support, which has helped fund JA Our Community classes. Louise Ray, ACCF Board member and grants committee member, noted that the ACCF is very supportive of Junior Achievement and their effort to educate students with the JA course work led by local community leaders.
These ACCF grants were made possible through unrestricted fund sponsored by the Betty Jean Jones- Seffernick Memorial Community Enrichment Fund.
The Betty Jean Jones- Seffernick Memorial Community Enrichment was established in 2015 in memory of Betty Jean Jones-Seffernick by her husband Joe Seffernick of Geneva. The intention of this award is to provide an annual tribute to Betty Jean and to recognize her 22 years as a medical lab technician at Jay County Hospital. The grant provides financial support for Adams County nonprofit organizations.
