Decatur’s annexation of property to become part of the Lake Shores subdivision on the east side of the city is sailing through city council.
But that’s no surprise since the residents of the subdivision have asked to be annexed.
At its latest meeting, council unanimously passed a resolution approving a fiscal plan for the area to be annexed, then approved on two readings the formal annexation. Final passage is expected at the June 20 meeting.
A public hearing preceded the voting, but no comments for or against the annexation were aired.
The area being annexed involves 24.219 acres to the south of the current subdivision.
Some 65 lots are expected to be carved out of that area in the next few years. Councilman Matt Dyer, a resident of Lake Shores, said all 65 lots have already been spoken for.
City Attorney Anne Razo said at a previous council that the fiscal plan primarily shows “stress” on the city – sewer and water lines, etc. – and also pointed out revenue sources and benefits to the city.
Various city department heads have looked over the plans and offered no objections.
