Owen Minnick and Winston Brown, the top two players for the Bellmont Braves all spring, closed out the home season with style with an eagle from Minnick on 18 and a season-best round of 33 for Brown. The Braves beat their archnemesis, Norwell, 154-162 on Senior Night.
“Winston’s best nine of the year,” remarked assistant coach Mike Macke. “He stayed patient and after parring the first five holes, birdied three of the last four! He was very much in control of his game tonight.”
Brown did not record a bogey and was exceptionally good on the “old course” holes, finishing with birdies on holes No. 15, 17 and 18.
The shot of the night belonged to Minnick. His second shot on No. 18 landed to within four feet. He converted the putt for a 3 on the scorecard, an eagle on the Par 5 hole.
Jayden Haines played a good round, shooting 41 with two double bogeys. He has played three good rounds sandwiched around a rough tournament on Saturday as his play has been much improved as of late.
Gage Bressler also played his final high school round on the Cross Creek course, firing a 43. The coaches believe his best golf of the year is still to come.
Another senior, Bryce Rickord, struggled on a few holes, but his game has been better the last couple of weeks, as well.
The 154 is the best nine of the season for the team.
“We like that we are playing some of our best golf as we head into the Conference tournament and Sectional.”
The last regular season match is Monday at McMillen against Heritage.
