The long bus ride north to Noble County had no effect on the Bellmont bats as coach Mindy Buuck’s team scored in nearly every inning and the Braves won an important NE8 contest, 11-1.
The player of the game was undoubtedly Makenzie Mankey at third base after she went 3 for 4 with five runs batted in.
Mankey singled in a run in the first, then doubled in two in the fifth. Her second double of the game in the sixth inning also scored two and put the Braves up 10-1.
Piper Baker threw the first six innings for the Braves and allowed just one run in the bottom of the first, striking out five to score the victory.Â
Mary Kate Scheumann threw a perfect seventh and struck out two.
Taylor Bauer was 3 for 4 with two stolen bases and a double. Emily Bleke also added a double and was 2 for 4 with a walk.
The victory put Bellmont at 4-2 in the NE8 with not one game to play, but two outs to play. Friday’s game against Huntington North was suspended due to a storm with the Braves trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh.
The Vikings will travel all the way back to Bellmont to try and retire Aaliyah Faurote and Emily Bleke before heading back home Thursday. The Braves will stay on the diamond and take on Bishop Dwenger afterwards.
