They may have faltered mightily in Wednesday’s loss to Jay County, but the South Adams Starfires answered back over the weekend, crushing four opponents by scoring 49 runs and winning the Garrett Invitational Saturday.Â
Thursday – South Adams 20 Southern Wells 3
The Starfires scored in every inning and added nine in the top of the seventh to smash the Raiders.
Bekah Patterson finished a single short of the cycle, knocking in six runs, while Cora Baker was 4 for 5 with six runs knocked in. Macy Pries was 3 for 4 from the leadoff spot, scoring four times.
Peyton Pries threw three perfect innings, striking out four as the starter.
Friday – South Adams 10 Ft. Recovery 1
The two teams had nearly the same number of hits (11 for SA, 9 for FR), but the Starfires were the ones who pushed the runs across.
Gracy Bixler started the game, allowing one unearned run in four innings of work.
Peyton Pries closed out the game with three scoreless innings and two strikeouts.Â
Sofia Schwartz was 2 for 4 with a home run. Peyton Pries knocked in three runs with a double.
Saturday Semifinal – South Adams 11 Manchester 1
Taking on one of the new teams in the upcoming 2A sectional, South Adams jumped on Manchester early, leading 10-1 after four innings.
Peyton Pries started the morning game, throwing four innings and allowing just two hits. She also knocked in two runs and scored two more.
Cora Baker was 2 for 3 in the win.
Saturday Championship – South Adams 8 Garrett 5
The Starfires trailed 3-2 heading into the fifth, then scored five times to take control of the tournament.
Peyton Pries homered in the first inning with a solo shot to center field. She finished 2 for 4 with two runs batted in. She also threw the first four innings, allowing three runs.Â
Gracy Bixler came on in relief and allowed just one run in two innings of work.
Reagan Beitler threw the seventh and gave up one run. She also went 2 for 4 at the plate.
