Adams Central pulled out a tough ACAC win against county rival South Adams Thursday despite being without No. 1 singles player Hillary Tobias, bouncing back from a 5-0 defeat to Norwell the night before.
“Melanie (Bertsch) stepped up and played really well for us tonight,” noted AC head coach Jessica Disinger. Bertsch won in straight sets at No. 1 singles.
South Adams took advantage of the lineup shuffle, with Ava Kinsey winning at No. 2 singles and Ayla Loshe joining the varsity lineup for the first time and scoring a win over Josie Shoaf.
The Jets needed a tiebreak in both doubles matches, but won in straight sets.
With Prom this weekend, both teams are off this Saturday. The Jets are set to play Friday if the rain forecast for the afternoon does not materialize. That match is against Northfield.
Sectional play begins in less than three weeks.
