In a battle of NE8 rivals and sectional foes, the tennis match between Bellmont and Norwell came down to one court and a three-hour slugfest. With all the other varsity matches decided, the winner between Bellmont’s Emy Faurote and Norwell’s McKenna McNabb would be the difference.
After winning the first set, Faurote was close to making it a straight-set victory, but McNabb forced a tiebreak and outplayed the Bellmont senior in the tiebreak format, forcing a third set.
“Emy found confidence in her strokes again,” noted Bellmont head coach Kyle Arnold. “She pushed herself to a 6-1 win in that clinching set.
Olivia Selking and Leila Jin of Bellmont each continued their winning streaks at No. 1 and No. 3 singles, respectively. They’ve now each won seven matches in a row.
Norwell took both doubles matches.
“No. 1 and 2 Doubles played well again,” said Arnold, “but both faced very strong Norwell teams tonight.”
Both teams then watched as Faurote and McNabb battled.
“Norwell has an extremely tough and talented team. Definitely a team I expect to encounter again in sectional at the end of May. Even their JV was elite, winning 11 of the 12 reserve courts tonight,” noted Arnold.
