Jay County High School will be searching for a new varsity girls basketball coach today after coach Kirk Comer announced yesterday that he will be retiring from coaching due to his job commitments.
Comer said he informed his team of the decision Wednesday.
Kirk Comer has been the girls varsity basketball coach at jay county for 14 years, with his first stint from 2005 to 2009 and then from 2016 to 2023. His Patriots won 221 games at Jay County and lost 80. Overall, Comer has coached girls basketball for 28 years, including stops at Union City, Jay County, Winchester and Monroe Central with 408 wins and 206 losses.
Jay county was 23-2 this past season, 20-4 in 2022 and 19-4 in 2021. Comer also coached an undefeated regular season team in 2008-2009 which, went 18-0 that year.
His teams have dominated the ACAC, winning both the regular season and conference tournament titles most years.
