DECATUR – Bellmont made a statement in their 4-1 win against Adams Central at home in front of a pretty large crowd of tennis fans Monday, building momentum into a busy week what includes two more NE8 matches and an invitational at the beautiful DeKalb tennis complex Saturday.
“The girls played a great night of tennis tonight,” noted head coach Kyle Arnold.
The feature match of the night was at No. 1 singles, where Olivia Selking was coming off what coach Arnold called her best performance of the year against Luers on Saturday.
“Liv looks much more comfortable and confident in her ground strokes than she did a couple weeks ago, and it has paid dividends on the court.”
Emy Faurote and Leila Jin also toppled their opponents in straight sets to secure the early varsity victory.
Isabelle Ortiz and Marisol Jackson overcame a slow start after losing the first set to win a tight match at No. 1 doubles in three sets.
“Their win was very exciting for them,” noted Arnold, “after a pair of three-set losses last week, this win was a great confidence builder against a tough AC doubles team of Anna Leyse and Alexa Brotherton. Ortiz and Jackson had a specific goal and strategy during their match and were able to execute it fully until the match was over.
Sophomores Alyssa Coffey and Kaelyn Snyder also went the distance in their match, coming up short in 3 sets for the only varsity loss for the home Braves.
“The score may not show it, but I think Hillary had a really great match tonight against Selking. She challenged her,” noted AC head coach Jessica Disinger.
