The Bellmont bats fell silent Thursday when the Braves traveled to Carroll without their senior leader, Rachel Bleke, and they were shut out in a 4-0 loss, unable to muster any offense against Charger starting pitcher Laney Conner, who struck out six and allowed just four hits.
Piper Baker threw the first three innings for Bellmont and Mary Kate Scheumann the final three, but each were met with the same result: two earned runs allowed. Carroll struck out just three times.
All four Bellmont hits were singles, with Emily Bleke, Sami Christen, Scheumann and Jillian Wemhoff, who homered Wednesday at Heritage, each collecting one total base on the night.Â
Rachel Bleke’s ankle sprain leaves a gaping hole in the team as they head to a weekend tournament in Kokomo.
