Adams Central trailed after four innings but scored ten times in the final three frames for a big victory at Norwell Wednesday night as Athena Schwartz hit two home runs for the visiting Jets.Â
The heroics were provided by Athena Schwartz, with her four RBIs and three runs scored, and Melina Peralez, who raised her average higher with a 3 for 4 night.Â
Addie Baker went the distance for Adams Central, striking out nine Knights while allowing six hits and six walks.Â
Norwell’s Sami Lemler scored in the first and third innings to take the lead, but it was a big fifth inning that changed the tide for coach Cary Blake’s team.
Josie Zimmerman turned the lineup over with a single and scored on Sydney Jauregui’s triple. Jauregui then scored on Jenna Cook’s double and while Melina Peralez made an out in the middle of the rally, it was a useful one, allowing Cook to tag up and take third with one out. She later came around to score to put the Jets up 4-2.
That left the bases loaded with two outs for Schwartz, who hit her first home run of the year.
Norwell got one run back due to an AC error, but the Jets made up for it with a sacrifice fly by Jauregui in the next inning.
The Jets put the game to rest in the top of the seventh with a rally that started with a leadoff single by Peralez.
Maddie Hill hit a bunt single and Athena Schwartz decided she was not satisfied with just one home run and launched another one, this time to left field to put her team up 9-5.
Adams Central put two more on the board, capitalizing on a passed ball and a Norwell error to make it 11-5.
Baker allowed a run with two outs in the bottom of the final inning but the game was all Schwartz and Baker as the Jets moved to 6-1 on the year with perhaps their best victory of the young season so far.
