The Bellmont golf team moved to 2 – 0 Wednesday as they traveled to Whispering Creek G.C. and defeated the New Haven Bulldogs 161 – 235. The win gives Bellmont a 1 – 0 record in the NE8 conference while New Haven falls to 0 – 3, 0 – 1 in the conference.
The Braves were led by the dynamic duo of Winston Brown and Owen Minnick who each shot 38 on the par 36 back nine. The twin 38s matched their scores from the win last week over Wayne. Winston’s round featured a birdie and three bogies. Owen picked up two birdies, one of them a tap-in on the par-3 14th as he nearly had a hole-in-one.
Gage Bressler bounced back from a rough round in the Wayne match to notch a 42. He too had a birdie on the night to provide the third score for the Braves. Brice Rickord carded a solid 43 to give Bellmont its best team score of the young season. Jayden Haines shot 48 to round out the varsity.
The JV shot a team score of 189 and won uncontested as the Bulldogs did not field a JV team. All five reserves were within 3 strokes of each other as Ben Binegar and Colin Mihm each shot 46, Brady Malone 48, Rylan Mihm and Landon Strickler 49s.
Bellmont hosts East Noble Thursday, April 20 in a make-up match due to the lockdowns in Kendallville on April 13. It is one of only three home matches for the Braves. On Saturday, the varsity will be in the Concordia Invitational at Foster Park while the JV will travel to Geneva to play in the South Adams Invite.
