Playing their first conference match of the season, the Bellmont Braves made a long trip north to East Noble High School to play the Knights and came back to Decatur empty-handed after suffering a 3-2 defeat.
The home team jumped out to an early 2-0 lead by taking the No. 2 singles match and No. 2 doubles matches quickly, but Leila Jin and Olivia Selking answered back with wins of their own to tie the action at 2-2. That left it up to Isabelle Ortiz and Marisol Jackson, who forced a third set with a major turnaround from the way they started their match, winning the second set 6-1.
“I thought all the girls fought hard,” said coach Kyle Arnold after the loss.” “Especially No. 1 doubles in their back and forth three-set thriller. It was very even, unfortunately East Noble ended with the momentum and a few more timely shots. There are some points of improvement to be made going forward but against a strong East Noble team, I thought the ladies came ready to play tonight.”
