The Adams Central golf team will be under new management in 2023 as first year coach Mitch Hill takes over the coaching duties assisted by Chad Johnson. Though the coach is in his first year, the players have experience as every letter winner from 2022 is back from a team that went 8 – 4 in dual matches last season.
Juniors Keaton Bush (43.3 avg) and Jayden Sharpe (44.5 avg) led the team last year and are the leading averages back for coach Hill in 2023. “We return our varsity letter winners from last season and are led by the two Juniors as top scorers. We have a lot of varsity experience returning with them and solid leadership in our returning seniors. That should allow us to have a successful and competitive season.”
The four seniors returning for the Jets are Owen Johnson, Eddie Everett, Gabriel Burgin and Austin Shifferly who all averaged between 52 and 55 strokes per nine holes last season. Two Juniors who figure to join Bush and Sharpe in the varsity lineup will be Micah McClure (49.7) and Avery Biberstine (51.2). A fifth Junior, Zane Bard is in his first year on the squad.
In addition to the veterans, coach Hill will have four freshmen to develop. Mason Fruechte, Brody Isch, Drew Johnson and Coltan Landrum give the Jets youth and depth. “We have guys who really enjoy the game and our goal is to compete against our previous best performances. As new coaches, we want to learn our guys’ strengths and weaknesses and make sure that we are playing our best possible golf for the ACAC and Sectional tournaments.”
The Jets will play their home matches at Wabash Valley G.C. in Geneva. Look for A.C. golf to take a leap forward this season!
