Melina Peralez picked up right where she left off last season with another monster performance as the Adams Central Flying Jets got off to a winning start with two big innings in a 12-10 home win over Shenandoah.
Peralez finished 3 for 4 on the night and knocked in four runs. Two of them came on a double in the second inning with two outs and Peralez knocked in a single run in the fourth. The icing on the early-season cake came in the form of a solo shot over the center field fence to give the Jets a 12-8 lead.
Maddie Hill was the starter in the circle for coach Cary Blake and she picked up five strikeouts in three innings, but struggled, allowing eight runs. She was replaced by Addie Baker, who picked up the win with four solid innings of work, allowing just two runs and striking out six.
Brooke Thomas went 2 for 3 as she ascended into the Adams Central starting lineup. Jenna cook also scored twice and knocked in two runs batting in the #2 slot ahead of Peralez.
The Jets are back in action Thursday against their old nemesis from the past few years, the Eastside Blazers. Adams Central will look to avenge last year’s season-ending postseason loss to the Blazers in Butler.
