Competing against two Indy area powerhouses, the Norwell Knights and Bellmont Braves used Saturday to prepare for next week’s sectional and finished with a respectable Top-Five finish.
The top three Bellmont runners all finished with career-best times as they ran on the Delta course for the first time in their careers. Both Norwell and Bellmont will return to the exact same course in a week to run in the newly-formatted IHSAA sectional.
Bellmont head coach Randy Hisner noted the performance of Cayden Rauch.
“He was fifth man, and it’s the first time he’s cracked the top five. He has made remarkable progress through consistent hard work and focused racing.”
Hisner noted that Rauch did not break 22 minutes last year.
“But here he is,” said Hisner, “running sub-19:30 and giving us a big boost as we head into the tournament next week.”
The top five teams from each sectional will advance to the regional, while the top 15 runners outside of those five teams will also advance.
