Andrew James scored his team-leading seventh goal in the first half, but the home Bellmont Braves fell to a very good Leo team, 2-1, on an emotional night at the Bellmont soccer complex.

The Braves outshot their opponents 5-3 in the opening 40 minutes and were level at halftime after Jack Johnson set up James for the goal.

Parker Frietas made four saves in goal for the Braves.

Before the game, two benches were dedicated in honor of two individuals closely associated with the Bellmont boys’ program. Family, friends and former players were on hand to honor the memory of assistant coach Rick Myers and former player Jordan Fuelling with memorial benches.

The Bellmont JV lost by an identical score. Joe Hakes scored the Braves’ goal.

Bellmont will play on the rough and rocky Jay County field Thursday in a fixture that always features physical play. They will then face a stretch of three conference opponents in seven days beginning with Tuesday’s game at Columbia City.
