The Fourth of July celebration in Decatur is going to be much larger than a single-day event, with two extra days of entertainment surrounding the holiday.
And it will all be free to the public.
Adams Memorial Hospital is a big contributor to the festivities, sponsoring an appearance by the Fort Wayne Philharmonic as well as being a major sponsor for the annual fireworks display and music on the Fourth.
It all begins Monday, the day before the Fourth, when the hospital celebrates its 100th year with the Philharmonic presenting its Patriotic Pops concert on the Madison St. Plaza.
Some 55-65 musicians will provide all manner of patriotic music.
The Philharmonic will begin at 7:30 p.m., but hospital officials are urging everyone to arrive as early as 6 to enjoy free root beer floats, hot dogs and more.
On the Fourth, everything will shift to the area behind and beside Riverside Center.
Nighttrain, a Guns & Roses tribute band, will provide music starting at 6 p.m. Food will be available at Riverside Center from to 6 to 9.
Starting about 9, the American Legion Color Guard will honor fallen veterans with its annual ceremony. At dusk, around 10 p.m., the fireworks display will begin.
Wednesday will be a mostly quiet day, but the “action” will resume on Thursday, shifting back to the plaza with another tribute band, JUMP, playing the music of Van Halen from 7 to 9 p.m.
As always, food vendors will be available, as will adult beverages from 2 Pour Guys.
