It sounded more like a football score than a softball final, but the seventh inning at DeKalb Wednesday may take the cake in the 2026 season for wildest inning after both teams scored nine runs for a scorigami-type game as the Barons got the better of Heritage 17-16.
DeKalb held Heritage scoreless as they built a lead through the first five innings, taking an 8-0 lead into the sixth.
That’s when the Patriots went crazy, scoring seven to make it a one-run game and then keeping DeKalb off the board in the bottom of the inning.
Then came the inning that was really wild.
Heritage pushed nine runs across in the top half to take what would surely be an insurmountable final-inning lead of 16-8.
Instead, DeKalb scored nine themselves and walked it off.
Summer Haverstock homered and drove in five runs for the home team.
No stats or information were received for Heritage.
