DECATUR – The Bellmont Braves dropped four strokes to visiting DeKalb on the first hole of the Front Nine at Cross Creek and were never able to recover, losing an exciting head-to-head match of twosomes to the Barons, 162-172.

Playing head to head instead of in foursomes, the No. 1s went off first and the Barons navigated the first tee better than the Braves, going a collective -1 for the five varsity guys. The home team carded three bogeys, filing to take advantage of the Par 5.

Elec Kimball and Luke Petrie shared medalist honors from the No. 1 and No. 5 spots, respectively, for DeKalb. Kimball hit his opening drive a foot from the opening drive of his Bellmont opponent, Chase Baker, but made birdie to put the visitors up early.

Baker didn’t back down, however. He took a short ride to the No. 2 tee and made a birdie of his own, taking a lead on Kimball, who had to score a five on his card.

Baker stayed ahead of Kimball until he made it back to the old course, where he ran into trouble and eventually had to settle for a 43 with three consecutive 6s on his card.

Cam Summers was the first Bellmont player to come in ahead of his opponent. His 42 was best for the Braves, while his opponent’s score of 46 was tossed out.
Kade Cutler matched his DeKalb opponent with a 44.
The Braves fell to 2-3 in the conference with the loss and 7-3 overall.
