Decatur Main Street’s recently awarded accreditation by a state organization will become a positive influence on downtown Decatur, Taylor Braun told city council at its March 17 meeting.
Braun, named Decatur Main Street’s executive director late last year, was introduced to council at the meeting.
The accreditation “opens up more opportunities,” Braun told council. “It will impact downtown Decatur.”
Braun, who was accompanied by Main Street President Max Miller, is the first salaried member of Decatur Main Street, a position needed to enable it to gain a higher status in the state organization and have greater opportunities to obtain grants.

She began her new duties on January 7 and now has an office in City Hall, although her position is not part of city government.
A recent graduate of Purdue University Fort Wayne, Braun studied marketing and gained experience in community outreach, event planning, and strategic communication through coursework and local internships.

She grew up in the Decatur area, the daughter of Jason and Julie Braun. The family later moved to Berne and Taylor graduated from South Adams High School.
Decatur Main Street is a non-profit, volunteer group of local residents who promote the downtown area and organize and hold numerous events, such as Downtown Decatur Day.
