INDIANAPOLIS – A veteran of the state diving meet and a newcomer to the state’s biggest diving stage represented Adams County Saturday in Indianapolis and both survived both rounds of elimination to score state meet points and put Adams Central and Bellmont in the Top 40 overall in the team standings.
Damon Light placed for the second straight year, finishing 11th overall and just missing out on a top-ten finish for the Jetskis.
Logan Whitacre easily advanced into the second round and then clinched his scoring position with three more great dives.
A year after Grant Cates (now diving at SMU at the collegiate level) of Oak Hill set the state diving record at last year’s state meet, senior Ian Parrott of Warsaw beat out two Fishers seniors for the title.
Whitacre actually finished his first five dives just ahead of Light, with the two Adams County friends sitting in 14th and 15th, respectively.
Light jumped up a few places after three dives in the semifinal round, but Whitacre easily had enough points to stay in the top sixteen and reach the finals.
Damon gained two more places to finish ninth with 394.00 and Whitacre went from 15th to 12th with 373.10 to round out the day.
