The latest addition to Decatur’s firefighting force grew up in a family deeply rooted in the service.
Jacob Baumann has been added to the Decatur Fire Department’s paid-on-call force.
His appointment, approved by the city’s board of works and safety on Tuesday, brings the paid-on-call force back to full strength: 25 firefighters.
An opening was created when Jeremy Jones recently moved up from the paid-on-call staff to a full-time position with the department.
Baumann, a 2019 Bellmont High School graduate, is the son of Mitch and Angie Baumann.
Jacob’s great-grandfather, Ernie Baumann, and his grandfather, Sam Baumann, were both firefighters, as is his father, Mitch, currently a captain with the department.
Jacob, a employee of American Composites and Tooling, has been a member of the Preble Volunteer Fire Department for a year.
Earlier this month, Jones and Lucas Juengel joined the department’s full-time (career) force.
They bring the department to eight career firefighters, one short of a full complement, along with Chief Jeff Sheets and Assistant Chief Chad Baumann.
