South Adams’ attempt at another trip to the State Finals fell short in the semi-state game for the second straight year as the Starfires fell to Pioneer 31-14 in Berne Friday night.
The Panthers will take on South Putnam in the opening game of the IHSAA’s six-game, two-day weekend at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on Friday.

The Starfires struggle to match their opponents’ ground game with their own passing game throughout the night.

Pioneer dominated the game on the ground, as expected, with all of their 397 offensive yards coming on the ground. They averaged over 6.5 yards per rushing attempt.
The Pioneer defense kept Tytus Lehman quiet until the final outcome was already decided. Two late touchdown passes to Wes Summersett, both in the fourth quarter, gave Lehman a line of 17 of 36 for 197 yards and two touchdowns in his final game as South Adams’ QB1.

The Starfires hurt their chances at pulling off the upset with with three turnovers.

Wes Summersett had both touchdown catches for the Stars, leading the team with six catches overall for 122 yards. He also had eight solo tackles.
Noah Van Meter led Pioneer in rushing with two touchdowns and 184 yards.
